How to use the EPH CP4 thermostat

Struggling to get the most out of your home heating system? Your EPH CP4 thermostat (including RFRP, CP4M and CP4B models) is more powerful than you might think. Let's break down exactly how to use this versatile device to keep your home perfectly comfortable while maximising efficiency.

Understanding the operating modes

Auto mode — your daily schedule assistant

The Auto mode is where your thermostat really shines. Instead of simple on/off times, you can set up to six different temperature periods throughout the day.

  • Program up to six different time and temperature combinations.
  • There are no specific "off" times — just set lower temperatures for periods of less activity.
  • Heating activates automatically when room temperature falls below your set point.

Manual mode — direct control

Sometimes you need to override your regular schedule. Manual mode lets you:

  • Set a single target temperature.
  • Maintain that temperature until you change modes.
  • Adjust the temperature easily with the plus and minus buttons.

Off mode — built-in protection

Even when turned off, your thermostat looks after your home. The system remains inactive but monitors temperature, and frost protection activates if the temperature drops below 5°C — perfect for extended absences.

Pro tips for programming

Setting up your daily schedule

Here's an example of an efficient daily program:

  • 6:30 AM (P1): 21°C — wake up to a warm home.
  • 8:00 AM (P2): 10°C — energy saving while you're out.
  • 5:00 PM (P5): 21°C — comfort for evening activities.
  • 9:00 PM (P6): 10°C — economy overnight.

Using the Boost function

Need quick warmth outside your schedule?

  • Press once for 1 hour of heating.
  • Press twice for 2 hours.
  • Press three times for 3 hours.
  • The default boost temperature is 21°C (adjustable).

Making the most of your thermostat

Remember these key points:

  • There are no "off times" — only temperature changes.
  • Lower temperatures during absent periods save energy.
  • Frost protection is always active in Off mode.
  • The Boost function provides temporary comfort without disrupting your regular schedule.
