Why This Area
From Earlsdon terraces to post-war semis
Coventry's homes are a real mix, partly because so much of the city was rebuilt after the war. Victorian and Edwardian terraces in areas like Earlsdon and Spon End sit alongside streets of inter-war and post-war semis in places like Holbrooks and Longford, and newer flats in and around the city centre.
Each brings its own heating jobs. In a terrace the boiler is often in the kitchen with the flue going out through the back wall into a small yard, so a new boiler has to fit the space and meet the rules on where flues can go. Many semis still have their original radiators, sized for an old boiler running very hot. Flats can mean tight cupboards, shared walls and no outside space for a heat pump.

Is a heat pump right for your Coventry home?
Plenty of Coventry semis and detached homes suit an air source heat pump, but we never assume. We work out the heat loss of every room first, then check whether the existing radiators can do the job at the lower temperatures a heat pump runs at. Often only a few need changing.
Because we're MCS certified, our installs can qualify for the government's Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, and we'll check whether your home is eligible. Terraces with small yards and flats need more care over where the outdoor unit can go, and we'll tell you plainly if a heat pump isn't the right fit.
A home battery stores cheaper overnight electricity, or what your solar panels make during the day, for use in the evening. As NICEIC approved electricians we fit and connect it ourselves, and we can add one to an existing solar system.
Common Challenges
Hard water, cold radiators and tired boilers
Coventry's water is hard, and that shows up in combi boilers. Limescale builds up in the part that heats your hot water, so the tap runs hot then cold, or the boiler starts to rumble like a kettle. A good boiler repair clears or replaces the scaled part, and a scale reducer on the mains helps stop it coming back.
Other common faults are radiators cold at the bottom from sludge, systems that keep losing pressure, and older controls wired in ways that make the boiler switch on and off too often. Most are easier to fix before they fail on a cold morning. An annual boiler service is the best way to catch them, and our service scheme spreads the cost over 12 monthly payments.
